Travel doesn't always have to be cost a lot or involve going to fancy exotic places. Sometimes being a tourist in your own city can be just the vacation you need! Here are some ways to do so:
1. Attend a local festival or event. If you scour Facebook events, Eventbrite, your city's website or just good old-fashion Google, chances are you will find a bunch of festivals, events, concerts or other things happening that you never knew existed.
2. Try out a new restaurant or bar. I don't know about where you live but where I live there's a new restaurant seemingly popping up each week. Check it out and try something other than your usual taco or sushi spot.
3. DIY a Culture/History tour. Do you know some cool stories about things in your city? Why not take a day to visit these sites you may not have seen since childhood? Or take a friend and make a scavenger hunt out of it!
4. Check out your local sports team. Now, I'm not a big sports fan but my city is. So every so often, I may go to a hockey game, a basketball game or a football game. You'll be surprised at how often you can score cheap tickets, especially if it's not a popular rivalry!
5. Take a day trip. Exhausted the things I listed above and have access to a car or maybe Amtrak tickets or the Greyhound bus? Well, take a trip to somewhere nearby! Perhaps 30 minutes away or 2 hours, just be sure it's something you don't mind sitting or driving too for so long! There are always cute, quirky things happening nearby.
So before you think you need to book some big magical adventure for an extended period of time that you don't have (and if you want to use my services *wink*), consider taking a "trip" in your hometown.
